Class Evaluation

Class Evaluation
1.   What I liked about this class was that I was able to learn more about computers and the internet. I always thought that it was easy setting things up but after taking this class, I realized how hard everything actually is. I also liked the group discussions we had to do. We got to interact with other people that we probably never talked to.
2. Some things that I did not like about the class were that we had to do a lot of worksheets. I kind of just wanted to stick to doing group discussions. Other than that, I never had a problem with the class. I just thought that it was confusing and hard to understand. After I learned how to do things, I realized it was easy.
3. The only recommendation that I have for the class is that when we have to give our opinion on something, different people are called on each day. I noticed that when it comes to sharing something out loud, the people that share the things are usually the same people. I would like to hear some things from different people in the class so that they learn to speak better to large groups.
4. A highlight for me was when we had to build the communication device from random objects. I really liked that little project and I thought that it was really fun.
5. I really do believe that I did my best in this class. I know that i could have done better if I studied more. I did, however, try my hardest in understanding things in the class that I thought were hard.
6. I am trying to study more and pay attention so that I do receive college credit. Its very important to get college credit and I am trying my best to get good scores on tests that we take in class.
7. I am reading my Life Planning Goals journal, not everyday, but I make sure to write down some goals when I think of something that I want to accomplish. Sometimes when I am not home, I write down my goals on my phone and the remind myself to write them down in my journal when I get home.
8. I honestly do want to be a CTR person but I just can't. Sometimes I catch myself saying bad words or being mean to people when I get really angry. I am trying to work on some things so that I can be a CTR person because I really want to be one.

Science Innovation

Science Innovation
 1. The Bios Incube is an incubator and it works with a Bios Urn that comes with a seed with your departed loved ones ashes. The seed grows into a tree helping bring life back to earth and lets you be closer to your loved one. After you have changed the tree into the soil, you can reuse it to grow a different tree even if the seed isn't from the company.
2. This will impact people who have a green thumb and whom want to be close to their departed loved one in a different way.
3. I think the only issue it will solve is having more trees on the planet if a lot of people start buying this product.
4. I honestly think that it is a really cool innovation. I would use it if it wasn't so expensive. I would want to be turned into a tree.

CSI

Computer Science Innovations
1. The sproutling baby monitor basically monitors your baby while they are in they are sleeping. This is designed to track the baby's movement and to make sure they are okay. It comes with an app that can be downloaded to your phone, then it sends you all of the notifications there. It lets you know when something is going on with your baby, when they turn over, their vital signs, and how long they sleep.
2. This will impact the people who have babies that like to turn over while sleeping. It lets them know when something is strange with the babys vital signs so it lets them know when to seek medical attention if something is ever wrong with their baby.
3. It will solve the problem of babies that end up not being able to breathe when they are sleeping. This way, they don't suffocate while taking a nap.
4. In my opinion, I honestly think that this is the best idea anyone can come up with pregnancy wise. My aunt is pregnant right now and it is her first child so we are very protective over her. This can really help her during her pregnancy just to make sure everything is okay with the baby.

Ben Carson
Ben Carson is a retired neurosurgen who preformed the only successful separation of Siamese twins joined at the head. He was also given the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is the highest civilian award in the United States.
This excellence was achieved by lots of studying of the human body and believing in himself.
I think that technology had a very big importance in his success. He would have had to have the knowledge of how the twins were doing and lots of other equipment to help him with the separation of the twins.

Reflection: I think that Carson is very talented and gifted. It is amazing that he was able to separate the twins that were joined at the head. I have seen many pictures of twins that were joined in different places and they would seem safe to remove them from that spot, but the head always seemed very dangerous because of the brain. But it amazes me that people who have conjoined twins can find a doctor who is able to separate them.

Technology Innovations

Technology Innovations
De-extinction
1.  This innovation is basicaly a big cloning device which helps bring back extict animals.
2. This will impact the whole world. Bringing back all the animals that were once extict can impact everyone. The life long dream of wanting to see a wooly mammoth or a do-do bird will come true to some people.
3. I don't necessarily think that it would solve things, only thing it'll solve is cloning, but other than that, I think it would bring problems. If we've all seen Jurrasic Park, we can see that bringing back extict animals can be a risk because they can effect the food chain.
4. I think that this innovation is a really cool idea. As i said in answer #3, I do believe this can bring some complications. I think that it'll be amazing for the person who is developing this cloning project.

Computer Science Innovations

Computer Science Innovations
1. This innovation helps keep passwords safe by using the human body to securely transmit passwords.
2.  It will impact everyone because only they have the password to something and they can open things that an intruder can't.
3. It will solve the problem of burglary. people won't be able to break into peoples houses because they would need a password and only the owner or residents of the house have it.
4. I honestly think that this is an amazing idea. I just feel like the number of kidnappings would go up because only people with the password can open specific things.

Internet Giveaway

Internet Giveaway
The internet giveaway is that the United States no longer has ownership of the internet. This means that anyone is able to buy the internet which can impact everything. Of course, people are frantic because they are afraid that the internet will land in the wrong hands and we may no longer have internet. People are trying to sue against the internet giveaway but who can stop it from happening.

Roger Bannister

Arete
Roger Bannister
1. The excellence that Roger Bannister achieved is that he was the first person to run and finish a mile in under 4 minutes.
2. This was achieved by coming in fourth in the olympics and wanting to be better.
3. I thnk that technology could have helped Bannister by showing him ways on how to improve his running and it could rewatch himself run so that he can get a better idea on what he has to work on.
Reflection: I think that it is amazing that Bannister even went to the olympics let alone be the first person to finish a mile in under four minutes. It must have been a wonderful achievement for him to finish that mile in four minutes. He even won a gold medal which is very amazing.

Second-Screen Innovation

Computer Science Innovations
1. Second-screen innovation creates significant opportunity to enhance and personalize game broadcasts, such as apps that include custom-angle replays, real-time player stats, and trivia questions.
2. This will impact those who love watching sports. It gives them a better insight on what is happening in the game and just in case there is a close call, they get to see it again while still watching the live game on their tv.
3. It will solve the problem of wanting to see highlights of the game or how other teams are doing in their games.
4. I think that this is an amazing innovation. I am a big baseball fanatic and I always have a problem with wanting to re-watch certain parts of a Dodgers game or wanting to see the San Francisco Giants score since we were fighting for the NL WEst Championship. Of course there are some apps that can do this but this innovation gives you full angles of a play that has to be replayed. Its also amazing that it will give you stats on the players and you get to hear the broadcasting of the game.

Mikaele Oloa

Mikaele Oloa
1. The excellence that was achieved was that Mikaele is the youngest person to compete in the World Fireknife championship and win.
2. This was achieved by his passion and by practising a lot.
3.  I think that technology could have helped him with learning new tricks and he could have watched more videos.

4. i think that it takes a lot of courage to do the thing that he does. He works with fire and he can easily get injured by a burn but it still doesn't stop him from doing what he loves. This shows that he is a very brave person. He loves entertaining people and to me, I think that's all that matters to him.

Agricultural Drones

Computer Science Innovations
Agricultural Drones
A. This innovation is called an Agricultural Drone. It helps farmers with the care of their crops for example, irrigation treatment, soil variation, and distressed plants at a much lower cost than methods like crop imaging with a manned aircraft.
B. This will impact farmers because they get more help in taking care of the plants. They also get a better understanding in what is going on with the soil etc.
C. It will help solve the problem of nutrients in the soil and over/under watering.
D. I think that this is a wonderful innovation. It helps farmers and it also helps them save money in the long run. This will also help them get a better understanding of what is happening to their crops.

Arete Nathan Sawaya

Arete
Nathan Sawaya
  1. Nathan is best known for his Lego building in everyday items: sculptures, buildings, characters etc.
  2. This excellence was achieved by him leaving his job as an attorney and because a lego artist.
  3. I think technology impacted this because in order to be able to build the things he builds, you have to have preciseness and you have to be able to know how many legos you need.
Image result for nathan sawaya

Reflection: I think that is is amazing. It takes skill and patience in order to build these sculptures. I have tons of respect for lego builders because it truly is an art. For him to leave his job as an attorney shows that he is very passionate about the building of legos. Hes also a well-known artist which shows that he is very good at what he is doing.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Blow to Bits
Reflection
Chapter three talks about the information of how fast bits can be transferred. It also talks about the many dangers of email transfers and the safety while using a computer. What I had found interesting about the chapter was that the fastest thing in the universe is the speed of light , traveling at the speed of 186,000 miles per second. What is even more interesting is that an email can also travel that fast, pretty fast in my opinion. So many people send emails all day every day, students to teachers, bosses to employees with classified information etc. They would think that no one would ever read that unless it is the receiver on the other end of that email. However, according to the chapter, the emails aren't as private as it seems or as we think. In fact, hackers and even the government have access to that information.

Alex Hattori

Arete
Alex Hattori
Alex is an American YoYo player who is in 3A sponsored by yoyojam up until 2014. His achievements were winning multiple championships in either 1st or 2nd place. He learned a lot by the club he was in and eventually got better at Yoyoing. I think technology could have helped him learn and perfect new tricks in order for him to win many more titles.
Reflection: I find it amazing that a kid at such a young age can achieve something very big. Not only was he a champion but he also went on many different tv shows. I believe that he is a big inspiration to kids that have a passion for something like this. He, in my opinion, shows how you can make something small like yoyoing a huge success. After seeing the videos, yoyoing isn't easy as you think it is. It takes skill and practice and Alex has all of that.

Computer Science Innovations
 Microscale 3-D Printing
Currently, this 3-D printing machine can only print plastic, but it is being designed in order to eventually create artificial organs. This will impact the people who are waiting to find a donor, those who are severely ill with organ damage. It will solve the problems in which people are waiting on lists in order to get a liver, kidney, heart, etc. In my opinion, I think that it is an amazing innovation. My uncle is on the waiting list to get a liver but there are little hopes for him to get it seeing as there are thousands of people in front of him.

Carl and Margaret Karcher

The excellence that these two people achieved was a fast food restaurant named Carl's Jr. This was achieved by them starting a hot dog stand and it booming from there. Technology could have very much affected their fans of the restaurant and the following of the people.

CSI

Computer Science Innovations
California has been getting rather hot lately. Temperatures are rising up to 100 degrees. However, that didn't stop Boreal Mountain Resort. They have machines which make snow in order for snowboarders to enjoy. Of course this snow isn't the real thing but it works exactly the same and provides a slippery surface for them to slide on. It solves the problem of there being no snow. It also impacts snowboarders and the people who go there on vacation. I think that this is a great innovation because you have snow every day of the year.

Mia Hamm

Arete
Mia Hamm
Mia Hamm is a retired professional soccer player. She was the youngest player on the Women's U.S. National Team. In 1996, she, and her team, won a gold medal in the Olympics. She started when she was a young girl and credits her brother for pushing her to join. I think that technology had an impact in people across the U.S. watching her play and becoming a fan of hers.
Reflection:
I think that this is an amazing example of arete. Mia came from a family who moved around a lot due to her father being an air pilot. She didn't have time to settle and make many friends. At the age of 15, she became the youngest player playing for the U.S. national team. At the age of 15, I was still in school doing nothing. Mia's story shows that at any age, you can become anything you want. She has won a Gold Medal at the Olympics TWICE. She is also a Champion in Women's World Cup. Mia is a very good role model for kids, teens, and adults around the world.

Luke Aikins

Arete

Luke Aikins

The excellence which Luke Aikins achieved was that he was the first person to skydive without a parachute. This stunt was achieved by building a 100x100 foot net. Aikins dropped 25,000 feet from the air and was caught by a net. This net was made by a material called Spectra. I think technology had a big part in this stunt. Without it, Aikins wouldn't have known how tall the net would have to be or if this was even safe to attempt.
Reflection:
I believe that this is an amazing stunt preformed and that it is very nerve-wrecking just thinking about it or even seeing the pictures online. Aikins had been preparing this stunt for 2 years and i can't even imagine that his excitement once he did it and achieved it. The lesson of life that I have learned from this is that you should be a risk taker sometimes because your life is short. I learned that you should just go for it and not worry about anything. If you have been planning something for a while, just do it. I also learned to appreciate life more because even during this dangerous stunt, Aikins could have landed on the ground and died. This shows me that life is short and not to take it for granted.

Marvin Goldstein

Arete

Marvin Goldstein
The excellence that Marvin Goldstein achieved is that he is am acclaimed pianist and well-sought out performer. At a very young age (18), Goldstein was awarded a music scholarship to Tel Aviv University School of Music in Israel. This was achieved by not giving up on his dream and trying very hard at what he loves to do. In my opinion, if Goldstein would have used Technology, it would have helped him learn how the piano much easier and it would give him a lot of information on some of his other favorite artists. Even without technology, Goldstein was still able to make it very far in his music career.
Reflection: I believe that this is a very good arete experience. Goldstein was able to get very far in his music career and I feel like that sets a very great example for the people that want to pursue in the music industry. This is also showing people that it isn't to early (in age) to go for what you want.
