Roger Bannister

Arete
Roger Bannister
1. The excellence that Roger Bannister achieved is that he was the first person to run and finish a mile in under 4 minutes.
2. This was achieved by coming in fourth in the olympics and wanting to be better.
3. I thnk that technology could have helped Bannister by showing him ways on how to improve his running and it could rewatch himself run so that he can get a better idea on what he has to work on.
Reflection: I think that it is amazing that Bannister even went to the olympics let alone be the first person to finish a mile in under four minutes. It must have been a wonderful achievement for him to finish that mile in four minutes. He even won a gold medal which is very amazing.

Second-Screen Innovation

Computer Science Innovations
1. Second-screen innovation creates significant opportunity to enhance and personalize game broadcasts, such as apps that include custom-angle replays, real-time player stats, and trivia questions.
2. This will impact those who love watching sports. It gives them a better insight on what is happening in the game and just in case there is a close call, they get to see it again while still watching the live game on their tv.
3. It will solve the problem of wanting to see highlights of the game or how other teams are doing in their games.
4. I think that this is an amazing innovation. I am a big baseball fanatic and I always have a problem with wanting to re-watch certain parts of a Dodgers game or wanting to see the San Francisco Giants score since we were fighting for the NL WEst Championship. Of course there are some apps that can do this but this innovation gives you full angles of a play that has to be replayed. Its also amazing that it will give you stats on the players and you get to hear the broadcasting of the game.

Mikaele Oloa

Arete
Mikaele Oloa
1. The excellence that was achieved was that Mikaele is the youngest person to compete in the World Fireknife championship and win.
2. This was achieved by his passion and by practising a lot.
3.  I think that technology could have helped him with learning new tricks and he could have watched more videos.

4. i think that it takes a lot of courage to do the thing that he does. He works with fire and he can easily get injured by a burn but it still doesn't stop him from doing what he loves. This shows that he is a very brave person. He loves entertaining people and to me, I think that's all that matters to him.

Agricultural Drones

Computer Science Innovations
Agricultural Drones
A. This innovation is called an Agricultural Drone. It helps farmers with the care of their crops for example, irrigation treatment, soil variation, and distressed plants at a much lower cost than methods like crop imaging with a manned aircraft.
B. This will impact farmers because they get more help in taking care of the plants. They also get a better understanding in what is going on with the soil etc.
C. It will help solve the problem of nutrients in the soil and over/under watering.
D. I think that this is a wonderful innovation. It helps farmers and it also helps them save money in the long run. This will also help them get a better understanding of what is happening to their crops.

Arete Nathan Sawaya

Arete
Nathan Sawaya
  1. Nathan is best known for his Lego building in everyday items: sculptures, buildings, characters etc.
  2. This excellence was achieved by him leaving his job as an attorney and because a lego artist.
  3. I think technology impacted this because in order to be able to build the things he builds, you have to have preciseness and you have to be able to know how many legos you need.

Reflection: I think that is is amazing. It takes skill and patience in order to build these sculptures. I have tons of respect for lego builders because it truly is an art. For him to leave his job as an attorney shows that he is very passionate about the building of legos. Hes also a well-known artist which shows that he is very good at what he is doing.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Blow to Bits
Reflection
Chapter three talks about the information of how fast bits can be transferred. It also talks about the many dangers of email transfers and the safety while using a computer. What I had found interesting about the chapter was that the fastest thing in the universe is the speed of light , traveling at the speed of 186,000 miles per second. What is even more interesting is that an email can also travel that fast, pretty fast in my opinion. So many people send emails all day every day, students to teachers, bosses to employees with classified information etc. They would think that no one would ever read that unless it is the receiver on the other end of that email. However, according to the chapter, the emails aren't as private as it seems or as we think. In fact, hackers and even the government have access to that information.

Alex Hattori

Arete
Alex Hattori
Alex is an American YoYo player who is in 3A sponsored by yoyojam up until 2014. His achievements were winning multiple championships in either 1st or 2nd place. He learned a lot by the club he was in and eventually got better at Yoyoing. I think technology could have helped him learn and perfect new tricks in order for him to win many more titles.
Reflection: I find it amazing that a kid at such a young age can achieve something very big. Not only was he a champion but he also went on many different tv shows. I believe that he is a big inspiration to kids that have a passion for something like this. He, in my opinion, shows how you can make something small like yoyoing a huge success. After seeing the videos, yoyoing isn't easy as you think it is. It takes skill and practice and Alex has all of that.

Computer Science Innovations
 Microscale 3-D Printing
Currently, this 3-D printing machine can only print plastic, but it is being designed in order to eventually create artificial organs. This will impact the people who are waiting to find a donor, those who are severely ill with organ damage. It will solve the problems in which people are waiting on lists in order to get a liver, kidney, heart, etc. In my opinion, I think that it is an amazing innovation. My uncle is on the waiting list to get a liver but there are little hopes for him to get it seeing as there are thousands of people in front of him.

CSI

Computer Science Innovations
California has been getting rather hot lately. Temperatures are rising up to 100 degrees. However, that didn't stop Boreal Mountain Resort. They have machines which make snow in order for snowboarders to enjoy. Of course this snow isn't the real thing but it works exactly the same and provides a slippery surface for them to slide on. It solves the problem of there being no snow. It also impacts snowboarders and the people who go there on vacation. I think that this is a great innovation because you have snow every day of the year.
